Just 2 km from Castell’Arquato, in the San Lorenzo area, lies Podere Palazzo Illica, a true gem of history and nature. This ancient 17th-century palace, once owned by Diogene Illica, father of the famous librettist Luigi Illica, has preserved its original structures, furnishings, and the charm of a bygone era, offering guests a unique experience where relaxation blends with culture.
Nestled among the gentle hills of Arquata, with ravines, vineyards, and oak forests, the estate enjoys a panoramic and easily accessible location, close to the thermal complexes of Bacedasco, Salsomaggiore, Tabiano, and Castell’Arquato. The Visconti Castle and the Collegiate Church of Castell’Arquato are must-see destinations for those wishing to explore the historical treasures of the area.
The accommodations at Podere Palazzo Illica provide a perfect blend of tradition and modern comfort. In the main building, the former rooms of the family have been transformed into cozy double and triple rooms with private bathrooms, tastefully decorated in styles from different eras. The renovation of the 19th-century building of Locanda Illica has created triple, quadruple, and quintuple rooms, perfect for groups or families, all while respecting the original architecture. The spaces feature large windows overlooking the Italian garden, olive and walnut parquet flooring, and refined details that create an elegant atmosphere.
The dining area, stylish and well-maintained, has been created from an ancient room with brick and sandstone arches, while the library offers a vast selection of literary and artistic works, as well as Italian and foreign language courses. For corporate and training events, the “Old England” conference room can accommodate up to 70 people, and an additional seminar room holds 20 seats. There is also a small gym in the vaulted room, a massage area, and a swimming pool available from May to October.
For nature lovers, the estate offers guided e-bike tours, walks through the olive groves and forests, and a fitness trail leading to the ridge of Monte Rosso, where breathtaking views of Castell’Arquato can be enjoyed. Podere Palazzo Illica is a place where history, natural beauty, and hospitality come together, providing guests with an unforgettable stay.
