Antica Locanda

In the heart of Montescheno, nestled in the picturesque Antrona Valley, the Antica Locanda serves as a cozy retreat designed for families, couples, and groups of friends seeking peace and nature. Within less than an hour, you can reach the breathtaking Toce Waterfalls, Lake Maggiore with Stresa and the Borromean Islands, Lake Mergozzo, the Alpe Veglia and Alpe Devero Natural Park, and the Terme di Premia. Staying in the valley, about a thirty-minute drive away, you'll find Lake Antrona and Lake dei Cavalli, ideal destinations for outdoor days.

Just a hundred meters from the house, the forest begins, with trails suitable for both children and experienced hikers. The historic Vigezzina-Centovalli Railway departs from Domodossola, connecting Italy to Switzerland all the way to Locarno, offering a scenic journey through mountains and valleys.

The building that now welcomes guests is an old chalet rich in history: over the centuries, it has served as an inn, a grocery store, and the village's only telephone point; during the war, it housed the German command, and in even earlier times, it was a place of isolation during epidemics. Following an initial restoration, the upper floor was completely renovated in 2025 and transformed into two independent units dedicated to hospitality, meticulously designed to provide comfort and autonomy.

Sonia, the hostess and a passionate lover of the mountains, has extensive knowledge of the area and is eager to suggest personalized routes and itineraries. Enthusiastic about wild herbs and small artisanal liquors, she offers guests a tasting as a welcome gift. Despite working as a teacher during the week, she remains available for any needs and has a trusted person on-site to assist.

The Antica Locanda is located in the center of the village, just two bends after the bell tower, in a convenient and quiet spot: an ideal starting point to experience the mountains in every season, surrounded by nature, history, and authenticity.
